The Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine

The Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine offers six (6) programs at the master's level:

Agriculture and Food Economics - MA, 120 ECTS

To advance the expertise of:

Specialized in the field of agricultural production economy, food industry economy, expansion of services in rural areas and agricultural and rural policies in a continuous manner in accordance with the needs of the country's market.

Be able to understand and apply the concepts of agriculture and food economics, microeconomics and macroeconomics in agriculture, environmental economics and rural sociology. To be able to recognize, choose analytical methods, analyze and solve problems in the field of agriculture and food economy. Ability to gather research in the field of food and agriculture economics and apply knowledge in practice.

Plant Protection – MA, 120 ECTS

The Master's curriculum in Plant Protection-Phytomedicine aims to increase the capacity, training, attractiveness and improve the positioning of students in the labor market, developing attractive curricula that meet market demands. Also, it allows the discussion of issues related to plant protection, the transfer of information and knowledge that promote economic development.

The knowledge acquired through the Plant Protection-Phytomedicine study program enables the application of the knowledge and skills acquired during the studies for the successful solution of complex problems in the scientific field of Plant Protection. This program aims to enable students to achieve:

  • deep scientific and technological knowledge to design and manage innovations in plant protection and to improve the quality, quantity, hygiene and sanitary aspects of plant products especially through the application of Integrated Pest Management (MID);
  • deep knowledge of plant pests (pests, pathogens, weeds) and other organisms, ecology, etiology and epidemiology of diseases, bio-ethology of pests, ecology and biology of weeds;
  • in-depth knowledge of non-parasitic diseases and their control;
  • adequate knowledge to recognize plant diseases, pests, pathogens and other organisms under practical conditions;
  • in-depth knowledge of the impact of agro-ecosystem components and cultural practices on plant pathogens, pests, weeds and other organisms;
  • deep knowledge of technical tools, natural, synthetic and biological plant protection products used for integrated and biological protection as well as prevention of possible negative effects on people and the living environment of plant protection products.
  • implement the curriculum through well-planned topics and learning activities based on expected outcomes,
  • plan lessons in accordance with curriculum requirements,
  • use different learning and assessment strategies with the student at the center,
  • prepare teaching materials and use digital media in the teaching process,
  • to apply in-depth scientific knowledge in the field of Plant Protection in different scientific contexts.

Pomology and Viticulture - MA, 120 ECTS

The general objective of the study program in Pomology and Viticulture is to educate and prepare students for scientific research and practical work in the field of Pomology and Viticulture and other sectors of Horticulture.

Students are required to learn to use contemporary scientific literature in order to acquire the necessary knowledge for the preparation, implementation and supervision of various projects in the field of Pomology and Viticulture, and other sectors of Horticulture.

Students are required to learn how to formulate a scientific hypothesis, plan and conduct research, choose appropriate research methods and interpret research results with critical analysis and logical conclusions. Upon completion of the program, graduates will become experts with enhanced knowledge and competencies for scientific research and practical application of knowledge in the field of horticulture, viticulture and other sectors of horticulture.

Another objective of the Pomology and Viticulture study program is cooperation with partners in various projects with other universities inside and outside the country in order to implement new coherent methods of teaching and learning. The focus remains the continuation of the promotion of interdisciplinary cooperation within the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (FAV) between academic units of the University of Prishtina, local and international inter-university cooperation.

Applied Sciences in Animal Husbandry – MA, 120 ECTS

The main purpose of the study in the master's program Applied Sciences in Zootechnics is to deepen the knowledge from the field of animal production which the student has acquired during the Bachelor's level of studies. Students are provided with relevant information related to the methodology of planning, setting up and monitoring scientific research, as well as the collection, processing and presentation of the obtained results. Students will deepen knowledge from the scientific field: Physiology of growth, reproduction and lactation, Physiology of animal nutrition, animal biotechnology as well as biometrics and other subjects related to the contemporary methodology of animal production. Students acquire sufficient knowledge to promote and promote a more advanced livestock production in the country.

The curriculum of master's studies in applied sciences in animal husbandry aims to increase the professional capacity of the student and his competitive ability in the labor market. This curriculum will address the issue of graduate employment, learning flexibility, internationalization, cooperation with the entrepreneurial sector, reducing the migration of unemployed youth as well as rural and urban inequality.

Urban Agriculture – MA, 120 ECTS

The overall goal of the study program in Urban Agriculture is to educate and prepare students for scientific and research work in the field of Urban Agriculture. Students are required to learn to use contemporary scientific literature in order to gain the knowledge necessary to determine the direction of research. Students are required to learn how to formulate a scientific hypothesis, plan and conduct research, choose appropriate research methods and interpret research results with critical analysis, and logical conclusions. Upon completion of the study program, graduates will become experts with enhanced knowledge and competencies for scientific research and research in the field of Urban Agriculture.

The specific aim of the study program in Urban Agriculture is to raise the quality of teaching in order to gradually improve the quality of education and research, aiming to provide better educational opportunities for students.

Veterinary Medicine - 5 years of studies 300 ECTS

The knowledge gained through the study program enables the application of knowledge and skills acquired during the studies for the successful solution of complex problems in veterinary medicine. This program aims to enable students to:

  • implement the curriculum through well-planned topics and learning activities based on expected outcomes,
  • plan lessons in accordance with curriculum requirements,
  • use different learning and assessment strategies with the student at the center,
  • prepare teaching materials and use digital media in the teaching process,
  • to apply in-depth scientific knowledge in the field of Veterinary Medicine in different scientific contexts,
  • collect materials for studies by applying relevant scientific methods.
