The Faculty of Philology

The Faculty of Philology offers ten master study programs as listed below:

  • Albanian Language – MA, 60 ECTS

Albanian Language MA program is oriented towards genuine scientific research in the field of the Albanian language, as a description of its structures, functions and uses. The program is built on the basis of the communication needs of today's Kosovar society and on the social enlightening factor: the need for research that leads to our knowledge of linguistics in general and the Albanian language in particular.

The program is designed in such a way that the main emphasis of the preparation is placed on the skills for describing language situations, concrete analysis, field work and, if necessary, diachronic analysis, based on linguistic theories. In all subjects / courses of the program the approximate ratio between the theoretical and practical part is 60/40 percent or 50/50 percent.

The program is intended as a conceptual link: students have subjects that will be formative for their master's thesis. Courses are offered mainly (but not necessarily) in the form of written seminars that are thought to be an integral part of the candidate's master's master.

Thanks to the cooperation of the Department of Albanian Language with various universities in the world, especially with the centers of Albanology, master students in this Department can attend one semester of study at any of these universities, in countries such as Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Italy etc., through ERASMUS + study programs and Mevlana Exchange Program.

  • German Language and Literature – MA, 60 ECTS

The Master Program “German Language and Literature” is based on the knowledge obtained during the BA-studies. The program gives the student the opportunity to expand their academic knowledge and skills in order to solve theoretical and practical problems in their profession.

Upon completion of the Master studies "German Language and Literature", students are prepared for advanced academic and professional career through a specialized curriculum in the field of German linguistics and literature, applied linguistics, methodology and didactics, culture and other research areas related to German. By acquiring and applying knowledge in these fields, students will be able to identify, analyze and solve problems related to German linguistics and literature, and be able to pursue doctoral studies. Graduates will develop critical thinking, communication and team collaboration skills, professional ethics, and will be prepared for lifelong learning.

  • German as a foreign language – MA, 60 ECTS

The Master Program “German as a Foreign Language” is designed in collaboration with the Goethe Institute with the aim of strengthening professional training in the field of German as a foreign language.

Upon completion of the Master studies "German as a Foreign Language", students are prepared for advanced academic and professional career, through a specialized program in the field of methodology and didactics, culture, applied linguistics and other research areas related to German as a foreign language. By acquiring and applying knowledge in these fields, students will be able to identify, analyze and solve problems related to German as a foreign language, and be able to pursue doctoral studies. Graduates will develop critical thinking, communication and team collaboration skills, professional ethics, and will be prepared for lifelong learning.

 

  • Albanian Literature – MA, 60 ECTS

The aim of the program is to ensure the academic continuity of the department and to establish the scientific tradition of studies in the field of literature. The main mission of this program is to prepare good professionals. This program has been prepared in full accordance with the principles of the mission of the Faculty of Philology and in harmony with the mission of the University of Prishtina "Hasan Prishtina", stated in its highest legal act - the Statute. Graduates of the Master program win qualifications based on bachelor studies, which enable them to carry out practical and / or scientific activities. Upon completion of their studies, they are able to work in jobs related to this qualification. The Master Program of Albanian Literature that will be offered by the Faculty of Philology is administered by the Department of Albanian Literature under the supervision of the relevant bodies of the faculty.

  • English Literature – MA, 60 ECTS

The program is designed for further academic education, with courses which provide a qualification in the field of English and American literature, other literatures in English, as well as teaching methodologies. The elective courses allow broadening and deepening knowledge in specific fields, depending on the students’ interest. The program offers equal opportunities for improving both theoretical and practical competences which enable a flexible approach in the job market, but also in further doctoral studies.

  • MA of English language (Integrated Programin Linguistics) – MA, 60 ECTS

The 1-year MA program “English Language (Integrated Program in Linguistics)” is considered as further academic education, with subjects that offer qualification in the field of teaching, translation and philological research. Elective courses provide opportunities to expand and deepen students’ knowledge in certain fields, according to their interests. The program equally provides the acquisition of theoretical and practical competences that enable flexible engagement in the labour market. It also enables students to pursue further their academic studies, which is to enroll in doctoral studies.

  • Journalism and Public Relations – MA, 120 ECTS

Students during their studies will enhance their theoretical and practical competencies. Within this master program, students develop a high degree of professionalism, which enables them to be responsible and reflect on their professional field. This program aims to

  • to utilize in-depth scientific knowledge in the field of Journalism and Communication

  • to master the specifics of learning the study of media and communication,
  • to plan learning activities based on expected results,
  • to apply different learning and evaluating strategies,
  • to do various researches in the field of media by using digital/new media in the studying process

  • French Language and Literature – MA, 60 ECTS

The Master of French Language and Literature program is conceived as a broader qualification of basic bachelor studies, thus offering students the opportunity to expand and deepen their academic knowledge and skills in order to be able to face the theoretical and practical problems of the profession and to continue their studies in the next cycle, in doctoral studies.

Based on the European system of transfer and accumulation of credits, each course has a number of hours / student load in accordance with the value of ECTS. The program is organized in one study year and two semesters. Both semesters contain courses and the student must simultaneously plan the appropriate time for the preparation of the diploma thesis.

  • Oriental cultural studies – MA, 60 ECTS

In order to create the opportunity for wider and more professional academic qualifications, the Department of Orientalistics compiles the Master Program of Oriental Cultural Studies, which aims to deepen and advance the knowledge and knowledge gained during basic bachelor studies with 240 ECTS. The program will apply the newest theories and methodologies of cultural and critical studies.

Given the oriental past of the country and the region, and the reappearance and expansion of the influence of the oriental elements, as well as the developments of recent decades in the cultural sphere, the Master's program of Oriental cultural studies will create cognitions of the culture, who will be able to interpret new phenomena of Oriental character in our society. The importance of this program lies in the fact that studies will be conducted on the latest theories and methodologies of critical and cultural studies, enabling the creation of a new approach in the field of Oriental studies as well as connosieurs of these cultural dimensiones who will be able to interpret new phenomena with oriental character in our society.

By acquiring and applying knowledge in the fields of oriental studies, students are enabled to identify, analyze and solve problems related to the needs of our society.

  • Turkish language and literature – MA, 60 ECTS

The department of Turkish language and Literature is committed to concentrating this level of education on the development of an infrastructure for the training of cadres aiming to steep in the science of turkology, respectively in the study of Turkish language and literature. Therefore, the MA program of this department of scientific character will prepare cadres that aim to create an academic career in this field, but also researchers of this field.

Studies in the field of turkology in the Western Balkans started in the mid-19th century. Nonetheless, the part that includes Kosovo, Macedonia and Albania is still slightly reshuffled in terms of Turkish studies. This creates a good opportunity for further researches in this region.

The Master Program of Turkish language and literature offered by the Faculty of Philology is administered by the Department of Turkish language and literature, under the supervision of relevant Faculty bodies..
