The University of Prishtina is pleased to share that the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES) Program 2025 is now open for applications from February 1 to March 31, 2025. This scholarship, sponsored by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China (Taiwan), aims to encourage international students to study Mandarin Chinese (Huayu) in Taiwan.

Scholarship

Recipients of the scholarship will receive a monthly stipend of NT$25,000, intended to cover tuition, books, rent, and other living expenses. Additionally, applicants are advised to prepare personal funds of at least 3,000 USD to cover initial expenses such as housing and tuition prepayments.

Scholarship Duration

Applicants may choose to study Mandarin for a period of three, six, nine, or twelve months between September 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026. Recipients must arrive in Taiwan and register at their Mandarin Learning Center (MLC) by the specified deadline, or they will forfeit their scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, applicants must:

• Be citizens of Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, or Kosovo;
• Be at least 18 years old;
• Have an outstanding academic record;
• Demonstrate good moral character.

Application Process

1. Apply for admission to a recognized Mandarin Language Center (MLC) in Taiwan (see Appendix 2 for a list of institutions).
2. Submit the online scholarship application at: https://Taiwanscholarship.moe.gov.tw/Apply (open from February 1 to March 31, 2025).
3. Print and submit the completed application along with the following documents to the Taipei Representative Office in Hungary (Rákóczi street 1-3, Budapest 1088, Hungary) by March 31, 2025:

-       Printed Huayu Enrichment Scholarship Application Form;

-       Photocopy of passport or proof of citizenship;

-       Photocopies of highest academic degree/certificate and academic transcripts;

-       Proof of application to an MLC (e.g., application form, payment receipt, or confirmation email);

-       Signed Terms of Agreement (Appendix 3);

-       Two letters of recommendation from professors, instructors, or supervisors.

-       (Optional) Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) certificate (priority consideration given to applicants with TOCFL scores).

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed by the Taipei Representative Office in Hungary, which will evaluate candidates based on academic achievements, motivation, and potential for success. Results will be announced by May 2025.

Successful candidates must submit their admission letter from their MLC by June 30, 2025, to finalize the scholarship. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

Priority will be given to applicants currently residing in Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Kosovo.
