The Senate of the University of Prishtina, in the meeting held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, announced elections for the members of UP in the Governing Council and decided to honor the globally renowned Japanese jurist in international law, Hisashi Owada, with the title of "Honorary Doctor."
In the meeting, it was decided to announce elections for five members from the academic staff who represent the University of Prishtina in the Governing Council.
The senators, with no opposing votes or abstentions, approved the announcement of the competition and the establishment of criteria for selecting new students in bachelor and master programs. The Regulations for the Office of the Ombudsman were also unanimously approved, as the new statute of July 2024 requires UP to have an advocate for students.
The drafting of this regulation and the concept for establishing the office were supported by the projects: "HEI '25" and "Support for Higher Education through Advocacy and Research-Based Contribution." These projects were implemented by the Coalition for Integrity and Transparency in the University (KITU), the primary advocate for creating ombudsman offices in public universities. Funding for this initiative was provided by the Western Balkans Foundation for an Open Society.
A minor change was made to the text of the regulation concerning the engagement of external collaborators; the term "external collaborators" was replaced with "engaged professors." The Senate decided to issue a public call for engaged professors and assistants and to extend their engagement at UP for the 2025/26 academic year.
In the meeting, the criteria and differences between national and international conferences were clearly defined.
In the Senate, several doctoral theses from various academic units of UP were unanimously approved, in accordance with the recommendations of the Central Council of Doctoral Studies. Discussions were also held regarding the use of university spaces by third parties, and it was decided that third parties whose missions are not similar to or the same as those of the University of Prishtina cannot use its spaces.
