Archaeologist and Professor at the University of Michigan, Michael Galaty, delivered a lecture to academic staff and students at the University of Prishtina on ancient sites in Kosovo, Albania, and the Balkans. This event coincided with the launch of the second issue of the academic journal Kosova Anthropologica at the Department of Anthropology.

In his lecture, Professor Galaty addressed the challenges faced by archaeology and anthropology in the modern era we inhabit, while also sharing details about excavations and discoveries at the prehistoric sites of Lubozhdë and Llugë in Kosovo. Beyond his scholarly remarks, the American professor spoke about Kosova Anthropologica, where he serves as one of the editors. He emphasized that the journal’s future is bright.

The Rector of the University of Prishtina, Arben Hajrullahu, congratulated the editorial team of Kosova Anthropologica during the event and highlighted the journal’s steady progress toward establishing itself as a lasting academic institution.

Anthropologist Nebi Bardhoshi from Tirana also spoke at the promotion. He noted that Kosova Anthropologica was launched on the same day Albania celebrates Summer Day, an ancient pagan holiday. Bardhoshi expressed hope that the journal would evolve into a central anthropological platform for Albanians, lending institutional weight to both itself and the Department of Anthropology within the university’s Faculty of Philosophy.

Editor-in-Chief Arsim Canolli, a professor in the Department of Anthropology and Director of the Institute of Anthropology, reflected on the journal’s history of challenges and efforts to strengthen its profile and international reach. He stated that Kosova Anthropologica aims to position itself as an open forum for global interdisciplinary topics, transcending regional boundaries.

The journal holds an ISSN number and is indexed on several international scientific platforms, including the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Its inaugural issue was published in 2023.
