In a meeting between Rector Arben Hajrullahu, his team, and students and alumni with special needs, discussions focused on how the University of Prishtina can ensure equal opportunities for everyone.

Participants included students Betim Bregovina, Lum Ilazi, Marigona Hamiti, and University of Prishtina alumna Mimoza Musliu.

Rector Hajrullahu emphasized that every individual is unique and excels in their own way. He reiterated his commitment to fostering an inclusive university and a society where everyone is integrated and treated equally.

Pro-Rector Rozafa Basha, who has conducted research and audits on accessibility for individuals with special needs in University of Prishtina facilities and beyond, noted that while progress has been made, much work remains to ensure that all university buildings are fully accessible.

The University of Prishtina already operates a Center for Students with Special Needs, equipped with essential learning tools tailored to these individuals.

Betim Bregovina, who holds a master’s degree in school psychology, counseling, and education, as well as a bachelor’s degree in pedagogy, emphasized that improvements for students with special needs should start with small, low-cost changes before moving to larger initiatives requiring significant resources.

Mimoza Musliu, a graduate with a master’s degree in pedagogy, raised concerns about the barriers many students with special needs face, particularly their inability to take the high school exit exam, which prevents them from enrolling at the University of Prishtina.

The university management pledged to actively address the issues discussed during the meeting.

The United Nations has designated December 3 as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
