A study conducted by two professors from the Department of Journalism at the University of Prishtina, involving primary school students and teachers, concluded that the surveyed children spend excessive time online and require media education.

Professors Arben Fetoshi and Faton Ismajli based their findings in the research titled "The Impact of Social Media on Students in Kosova: A Study from the Perspective of Teachers" on a survey of 651 fifth-grade students and 131 teachers across seven regional centers in Kosova.

The research revealed that nearly half (40.1%) of the surveyed fifth-grade students in Kosova spend over three hours online daily, with 24.1% reporting no restrictions from their parents. Additionally, 20% of these students stated they spend five hours a day on the internet.

During the presentation of the research findings, the professors noted that, according to the interviewed teachers, 60.3% of parents are primarily concerned about their children's concentration on learning. However, the study demonstrated that students' focus on learning has declined, as 65.6% of surveyed students reported being distracted, 57.3% less disciplined, and 46.6% read less.

Among the students involved in the research, 75.7% expressed a desire for greater knowledge about media and its usage. Yet, only a quarter of teachers (29.8%) and parents (35.3%) discuss these media topics with their students and children daily.

Professors Fetoshi and Ismajli recommend encouraging students to use applications that enhance critical thinking, training teachers regarding media and digital environments, and implementing media education for students starting from first grade.
