A delegation of law students from Florida State University visited the rectorate of the University of Prishtina, as part of their two-week stay in Kosovo.

Although living thousands of miles away, they stated that at the University of Prishtina and in Kosovo as a state, they feel at home. They highly praised the large number of Kosovars who speak English, their positive energy, and warm hospitality.

Accompanied by Professor Terry Coonan and Prof. Adelina Emini, a PhD candidate and visiting scholar at Florida State University, the American students were welcomed by Rector Arben Hajrullahu; Prorector for Internationalization and Academic Exchange, Rozafa Basha; Prorector for Budget, Finance, and Public-Private Sector Cooperation, Albana Berisha-Qehaja; and Prorector for Scientific Research, Projects, and Innovation, Avni Hajdari.

Rector Hajrullahu told the students that universities are spaces for clear and free thinking. He also spoke about Kosovo’s historical, political, and legal path, emphasizing to his guests that the state of Kosovo, like the U.S., is built on the principle of a civil society. Professor Terry Coonan expressed his belief that Kosovo represents one of Europe’s most promising democracies.

The visit by Florida State University students was enabled by the “Human Rights in Europe’s Newest Democracy” program, developed by Professors Coonan and Emini. Kosovo’s inclusion on Florida State University’s map since 2024, beyond technical aspects, reflects recognition of its people, their lives, and their ability to convey positive energy to visitors.

In addition to enabling these students to learn more about the mechanisms of Kosovo’s statehood, the program also connects them directly with activists, education representatives, institutional leaders, and citizens.

The American students will visit the village of Krusha e Madhe in Rahovec and meet women heroes who, despite the scars of war, are building a future for themselves and their children. This will be just one of many planned engagements during their stay.
