A Memorandum of Understanding was signed today between the Faculty of Law at the University of Prishtina (UP) and the Dedman School of Law at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas.

The memorandum was signed by Rector Arben Hajrullahu; Martin L. Camp, Deputy Dean for Graduate and International Programs at SMU’s Dedman School of Law; and Avni Puka, Dean of UP’s Faculty of Law.

Among other things, the agreement envisions opportunities for UP Law students to study at their partner institution in the United States, as well as deeper cooperation between the two faculties, universities, and students.

Prior to signing the memorandum, the high-ranking American guest, Deputy Dean Camp, emphasized that Kosovar students who gain knowledge in Dallas, Texas, will act as ambassadors for Kosovo. Upon completing their studies in the U.S., they will also become ambassadors for Dallas and Texas in Kosovo.

Rector Hajrullahu, welcoming the signing of the memorandum, stated that one of the University of Prishtina’s primary goals is the continuous strengthening of internationalization and the exchange of students and faculty with other universities.

Also present at the meeting and signing ceremony were Rozafa Basha, Vice-Rector for Internationalization and Academic Development, and Getoar Mjeku, a lawyer educated at SMU’s Dedman School of Law, who currently serves as Deputy Minister of Economy.

Deputy Dean Martin Camp of SMU’s law school, visiting Kosovo for the first time, delivered a lecture today at UP’s Faculty of Law titled “Ethical Obligations of Lawyers in the United States: Defenders of the Rule of Law.”
