In the opening speeches of the first international conference organized by the Institute for War Crimes in Kosovo (IKKL), held in the amphitheater of the Central University Library, it was stated that documenting these crimes strengthens peace and Kosovo’s statehood.

The conference, "The Scale, Legacy, Documentation, and Adjudication of Crimes Committed in Kosovo," which will last for three days, began significantly on the 17th anniversary of Kosovo's declaration of independence.

Rector Arben Hajrullahu stated at this conference that the University of Prishtina, as the most important academic institution in the country, aims to play a central role in researching and analyzing the critical periods of our history.

According to Rector Hajrullahu, to better understand the historical truth and build sustainable peace, UP has signed a cooperation agreement with the Institute for War Crimes in Kosovo (IKKL), because the war in Kosovo was not only a battle for freedom but also a significant historical-political moment that left major consequences on our society.

Meanwhile, noting that the IKKL has gathered materials on war crimes from 160 different sources: institutions, organizations, media, and individuals from the country and the region, the executive director of the institute, Atdhe Hetemi, stated that all this work has been done to preserve, protect, and remember the truth.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, also addressed the conference, emphasizing that war crimes must not be shrouded in silence and forgetfulness.

From this international scientific conference, where dozens of researchers from Kosovo and prestigious international universities will participate, an important academic publication is planned to be published, prepared by professors Aidan Hehir and Furtuna Sheremeti.
