The Department of Geography at the Faculty of Mathematical and Natural Sciences of the University of Prishtina has become an associate member of the Association of European Schools of Planning (AESOP), one of Europe's leading academic networks for spatial and urban planning.

The decision to admit the Department of Geography was approved by the AESOP Council of Representatives and officially confirmed by the organization's General Secretariat. On the association's website, the department is welcomed to AESOP alongside other universities and faculties from Europe that were accepted during 2026.

By joining this network, the Faculty of Mathematical and Natural Sciences, the University of Prishtina, and the Department of Geography gain new opportunities for academic and scientific cooperation with partner universities and institutions across Europe and beyond.

Academic staff, researchers, and students from the Department of Geography will have the chance to take part in conferences, summer schools, thematic groups, academic networks, and a wide range of AESOP initiatives. This membership will also make it easier to develop joint research projects, share experiences, support academic mobility, and build new international partnerships.

The membership process for the Department of Geography in AESOP was led by the Vice-Dean for Quality, Science, and International Cooperation at the Faculty of Mathematical and Natural Sciences, Associate Professor Ferim Gashi.

AESOP is the leading European organization of universities and higher education institutions that offer study programs and carry out research in the fields of spatial planning, urban planning, and territorial development.

One of the key priorities of the University of Prishtina and its academic units is internationalization, networking, and membership in well-known European and global organizations.
