The University of Prishtina will receive grants for eight projects across various fields through the University Support Grants Program (USGP), funded by the U.S. Embassy and implemented and monitored by Kosovo United States Alumni (KUSA).
The winning projects involve several academic units of the University of Prishtina. These U.S. grants will enhance teaching, scientific research, and the alignment of studies with the job market.
At the Faculty of Architecture, the Center for Innovation, Laboratory, and Technology (CILT) is set to become operational, aiming to boost innovation, practical learning, and interdisciplinary cooperation. At the Faculty of Civil Engineering, the grants will strengthen scientific research by implementing artificial intelligence (AI), advanced information technologies, and 3D printing.
The Faculty of Economics will develop a structured database covering economic, social, and structural data to assist researchers in Kosovo and inform national decision-making. Additionally, a separate project at this faculty will use surveys to study AI adoption among students and professors, with the goal of creating a practical guide for integrating AI into higher education.
Preserving Kosovo’s biodiversity and fauna will be supported through a project to establish a DNA barcoding laboratory at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering will establish an Additive Manufacturing Production Design Center to address gaps in manufacturing and strengthen industry partnerships. This involves creating three-dimensional objects from digital models by layering materials.
Through these grants, innovation will also be bolstered at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport. Meanwhile, the Faculty of Philosophy aims to enhance students’ practical skills in analysis and research methods via lab facilities and software tools.
The principal professors leading the eight University of Prishtina projects funded by USGP are: Albulena Shala, Arta Basha-Jakupi, Artan Krasniqi, Faton Tishukaj, Gentrit Berisha, Halil Ibrahimi, Riad Ramadani, and Valon Veseli.
Kosovo United States Alumni (KUSA), responsible for project implementation, was founded in 2007 with support from the U.S. Embassy in Kosovo. It comprises individuals who have received educational scholarships from the U.S. government.
