The international workshop on pharmacoepidemiology, medicine economics, and the use of artificial intelligence tools in health policy and planning opened with a formal ceremony at the University of Prishtina's Faculty of Medicine.

Organized by the Prishtina International Summer University and the Institute of Pharmacy, the workshop was co-led by Professor Zanfina Ademi of Monash University in Australia who recently joined the University of Prishtina as an affiliate alongside Professor Olaf Klungel of Utrecht University in the Netherlands and Professor Kreshnik Hoti of the University of Prishtina.

The workshop served as a prelude to this year’s edition of the Prishtina International Summer University, scheduled to take place from July 6 to 17, 2026. The program will include 19 courses taught by international professors working together with local academics, as well as 12 international workshops.

Today’s discussions explored the impact of medicines on broad population groups, the economics of health regulation, and the growing role of digital tools and artificial intelligence in healthcare decision-making.

Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Sefedin Muçaj, noted that the best healthcare decisions emerge when scientific evidence, professional expertise, and modern technology come together. The Director of the Institute of Pharmacy, Professor Pranvera Breznica, and the Chair of the Kosovo Chamber of Pharmacists, Kadri Bytyqi, also addressed the audience.

Speaking at this important event for the university, Rector Professor Arben Hajrullahu emphasized that the university's mission is to serve society by strengthening the connection between research, teaching, and societal benefit. He commended the three professors for their work on the workshop and offered special recognition to Professor Zanfina Ademi for her commitment to sharing her knowledge and experience with students at the University of Prishtina.

Following the opening, the international workshop titled “From Evidence to Decision: Pharmacoepidemiology, Health Economics, and AI-Enabled Digital Tools” continued with its scheduled thematic sessions.

Professor Zanfina Ademi, who established her affiliation with the University of Prishtina in February 2026, has already delivered several lectures at the university. She is the most widely cited Albanian female professor in the world and one of eight members of the academic diaspora working at the world’s top 400 universities who are now connected to the University of Prishtina.
