At its 21st meeting, held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, the Senate of the University of Prishtina (UP) formalized the association of oncologist and professor at The Ohio State University, Prof. Dukagjin Blakaj, with the University of Prishtina. The meeting also discussed how to honor the lifelong contributions of former Rector Ejup Statovci and former Professor Eshref Ademaj.
Prof. Blakaj is the second professor, following Gëzim Visoka, to be associated with the University of Prishtina under the Regulation on Transfer, the 'Brain Gain' program, and cases of extraordinary need for academic staff recruitment, which was approved on April 30, 2025.
He will work part-time at the Faculty of Medicine and is a co-author of one book, two book chapters, and hundreds of scientific papers in the field of cancer treatment.
During today's meeting, senators also discussed finding the best way to honor former UP Rector Ejup Statovci and former Professor Eshref Ademaj, both of whom made extraordinary contributions during the apartheid period of the 1990s when students were forced out of university buildings and teaching was organized in home-schools.
The meeting approved proposals for the appointment, reappointment, and advancement of academic staff in several UP faculties and presented the results of the public supplementary call for the engagement of external collaborators.
The Senate authorized the commission for amendments and supplements to the General Regulation on Doctoral Studies and for drafting an Implementation Guide for the procedures of these studies.
Furthermore, the defense of six doctoral dissertation topics was ratified and approved, and four new topics were approved based on materials received from the Central Council for Doctoral Studies
