A delegation from Israel, accompanied by the country's ambassador to Kosovo, visited the University of Prishtina (UP) to strengthen academic cooperation between the two nations' universities.
UP Rector Prof. Arben Hajrullahu and Vice-Rector for Scientific Research, Projects, and Innovation Prof. Avni Hajdari welcomed the delegation, which included Gilad Shadmon, Director-General of Israel's Ministry of Regional Cooperation; Shelly Perets, an official from the ministry; Her Excellency Tamar Ziv, Israel's Ambassador to Kosovo; legal advisor Bishara Eli Farran; and Valbona Fazliu, advisor to the Israeli Ambassador.
The meeting emphasized the need for concrete steps to enhance cooperation during this era of rapid technological advancement and artificial intelligence that is transforming the world. UP proposed partnerships in agriculture, information technology, and water management.
Gilad Shadmon, head of the Israeli delegation, stated that academic ties between universities and the two countries are vitally important. He also mentioned potential scholarship opportunities for UP students pursuing studies in Israel, as well as cooperation between Israeli innovation centers and the University of Prishtina.
Ambassador Tamar Ziv expressed hopes for this academic year to mark significant growth in cooperation between Israeli universities and UP. She noted that two to three Kosovar students are currently enrolled in Israeli universities annually.
The delegation showed interest in having Israeli professors and students participate in the 25th Prishtina International Summer University, scheduled for summer 2026. They also invited UP representatives to attend an international convention on artificial intelligence in education, to be held in Jerusalem in February 2026.
