On the International Day of Girls in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering (FIEK) organized the "Shecurity Conference and Hackathon 2025" to promote gender equality and greater inclusion of girls and women in future technology.
The event was welcomed with opening remarks by Majlinda Gjelaj, Prorector for Institutional Development, Quality, and Student Affairs, and Isak Shabani, Dean of FIEK.
During their speeches, they emphasized the need for collective efforts to provide equal opportunities for girls and women, remove barriers in their path to the tech world, and empower them to dream, challenge limits, and drive change.
It was also noted that the participation of students, girls, and women in this technological transformation—in a world rapidly embracing digitalization—is no longer just a matter of equality but a necessity for innovation, diversity, and social progress.
This year, for the first time, the conference hosted the "Capture the Flag (CTF)" competition, exclusively for female students of the University of Prishtina. The official platform for the competition, https://ctf.uni-pr.edu, was launched, where 65 students showcased their knowledge and creativity in solving cybersecurity challenges.
Dea Limoni won first place for her speed and creativity, followed by Brela Shala in second place and Agnesa Rama in third.
At the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, more girls are choosing to study engineering and technology programs year after year. They actively participate in research projects, earn international scholarships and awards, and become inspiring role models for future generations.
