At its 22nd meeting held on November 20, 2025, the Senate of the University of Prishtina (UP) approved the association of pharmacist and King’s College London professor, Prof. Driton Vllasaliu, with the university.

The association of this professor and pharmacist, who has an international-scale career, with the University of Prishtina was made upon the proposal of the Rector, Prof. Arben Hajrullahu. This move is in accordance with the Regulation on Transfer, the ‘Brain Gain’ program, and the provisions for extraordinary need in academic staff recruitment, which was approved by the UP Senate on April 30, 2025.

Prof. Driton Vllasaliu, a renowned medical professional from the School of Cancer & Pharmaceutical Sciences at King’s College London, will also work part-time at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Prishtina.

He completed his Master's and PhD in the field of pharmacy at the University of Nottingham in the UK (School of Pharmacy), and also earned a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Higher Education Teaching and Learning from the University of Lincoln, Pennsylvania.

Professor and pharmacist Driton Vllasaliu has published dozens of scientific papers in prestigious medical journals. The main focus of his professional interests is his ongoing work to overcome biological barriers for improved drug delivery, eliminating the need for injections.

Vllasaliu is the third professor to be associated with UP under the new framework since the Regulation on Transfer, the ‘Brain Gain’ program, and the provisions for extraordinary recruitment needs came into force. In October 2025, with the Senate's approval, physician and professor from The Ohio State University, Prof. Dukagjin Blakaj, also became part of UP's academic staff. Furthermore, in September, researcher from Dublin City University and research associate at the University of Oxford, Prof. Gëzim Visoka, was also associated with UP.

The arrival of these professors, who have international stature and high academic integrity, along with their contribution through lectures and the development of research and scientific cooperation, will help UP keep pace with the rapid developments of our time.
