Professor Avni Skeja, who spent 45 years at the Technical Faculty and later the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Pristina (UP), has once again demonstrated that his entire life remains dedicated to serving the country’s leading university.

He has donated his entire collection of over 5,000 books to UP’s students and academic staff, emphasizing that retirement has not ended his lifelong commitment to passing knowledge to new generations.

At a solemn ceremony marking the handover of these books, Professor Skeja was welcomed by Rector Arben Hajrullahu, alongside Vice-Rectors Albana Berisha-Qehaja, Avni Hajdari, Majlinda Gjelaj, and Rozafa Basha, academic leadership, and representatives of the Central University Library.

Rector Hajrullahu expressed hope that others would follow Professor Skeja’s example, stating, “The University of Pristina belongs to all citizens of Kosovo.” He praised the donation as “an exemplary case of what can and should be done, and a direction in which we, as a country, society, and university, must move forward.”

In his remarks, Rector Hajrullahu honored Skeja as a “master” and acknowledged that “all those who have contributed to the university have brought us to where we are today.”

Professor Skeja revealed that his donated collection—gathered over a lifetime and through donations—includes books for the Faculty of Law and Economics, the Department of English Language and Psychology, as well as Computer Science and Political Sciences.

He also shared a message for UP’s students and staff: “If we wish to see our country progress, each of us must contribute what we can—whether an extra hour of teaching, an idea, a book, or an inspiring conversation with a young student.”

Skeja commended Rector Hajrullahu’s work and vision, particularly his dedication to meritocracy: “I extend special gratitude to the Rector of UP, who leads this institution with vision and integrity, rooted in meritocratic principles—a value that inspires and fosters genuine academic development.”

The books will be cataloged at the Central University Library before being distributed to academic units across the University of Pristina.
