2008

Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering FECE (FIEK)

Meeting on Formalizing the FECE (FIEK) Advisory Board

On 13th November 2008, due to the iniciative of Prof. Dr. Myzafere Limani, former Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the support of USAID, with the good will of the big businesses in the sector of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the Industrial Board was established (now Advisory Board), for the first time at the University of Prishtina. This board did not have any specific organizational structure, but contributed greatly by raising the quality of the study programs by introducing new elective subjects that were of interest to industry and students. A number of experts from the industry were engaged in this framework,

The Avisory Body of FECE (FIEK) has also proposed and supported the idea for practical work to be mandatory, which should be carried out in businesses and be equivalent to 6 ECTS. This practice has shown itself as very successful and welcomed by the students. FECE (FIEK)’s Advisory Body has given a great contribution on the evaluation of plans and the curricula and on the accreditation process. International experts have highly appreciated the opinion of the Advisory Board on the proposed programs for accreditation and this has been considered one of the main criteria that FECE (FIEK) has received accreditation for all the programs it has applied for, for a maximum duration of 5 years.

Appreciating the importance of the Advisory Industrial Board, on the initiative of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) "Educating Youth through Employment - EYE", implemented by Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation and Management Development Associates, on 25th October  2013, the University of Prishtina Management and Deans of Academic Units, reviewed the possibility of formalizing industrial boards. As a result of these discussions, Prof. Dr. Enver Hamiti, introduced the Regulation on the Industrial Advisory Board (now Advisory Body), which was approved by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science on 14th January 2014. The positive results of the work of FECE (FIEK)'s Advisory Body contributed that one year afterwards, this Regulation would be improved and adapted to the needs of all Academic Units. In order to avoid misunderstanding, the term "Industrial Advisory Board" was changed to "Advisory Body" of the Academic Units. This amended Regulation was approved by the UP Senate on 29th December 2014.
