Program Overview and Objectives

The Fellowship Program for Intellectual Exchange is designed to provide selected intellectuals in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa with an opportunity to visit Japan and conduct their own individual research on a chosen topic as well as networking/exchange activities from 30 days up to 60 days. The program thus seeks to assist in the development of a new generation of Eastern European, Middle Eastern and African intellectual leaders who are familiar with Japan through established individual and institutional networks and are able to incorporate topics/elements related to Japan to their own field of research in future.

Eligibility of Applicants

1. Scholars, researchers (except undergraduate and graduate students), journalists and professionals who are engaged in research activities in the fields of the humanities or the social sciences, or who have practical experience in research, media, or non-profit organizations. In this fellowship, the applicant’s specialization should not be Japanese studies, but he/she should aim to conduct research that is related to Japan.

2. Individuals with adequate English-language proficiency to take part in collaborative interaction and to conduct research in Japan (Japanese-language ability is not assessed.)

3. Applicants who are under 45 years old (as a general rule), and who are nationals or permanent residents with an active academic/professional affiliation in any of the following countries and areas

Japan Foundation Grant Program "Fellowship for Intellectual Exchange 2014-2014". This grant program is not open to general public. Only applications screened by the Japanese Embassy will be accepted by the Japan Foundation.

Attached are following 5 documents: "Program Guideline", "Application Instructions", "Application Form", " Letter of Affiliation" and "Reference Form". Could you please distribute the attached documents to research-related institutions, organizations, universities, NGOs, etc in Kosovo with the following remarks:

1. The application deadline is December 2rd, 2013. The original of the application (with original signature) has to arrive at the Japanese Embassy in Austria by the given deadline. In case that the application forms need to be corrected, an earlier submission than the deadline would be preferable. Please advise interested persons to carefully read the application instructions before they fill in the forms. The address of the Japanese Embassy is as follows:

2. The screening process of the application might include a telephone interview or inquiry by e-mail during December 2013.

3. The applicant should find his/her academic advisor in Japan and make the arrangement that the "Letter of Affiliation", which is included in the application documents above, will be sent directly from the advisor to the Japan Foundation Headquarters. It has to arrive at or before December 20th, 2013.

4. The screening results will be announced by the end of April 2014.

Dear Permanent Delegates,
We are pleased to send you the attached letter addressed to the UNESCO National Commission of your country concerning our Institute’s 2014 Specialized Courses Programme (SCP) in Educational Planning and Management, to be held in Paris from 7 April to 30 May 2014.

Please note that the deadline for applying for the 2014 SCP is 31 December 2013. Application forms must be completed online.
